Etymology / origin
Unknown. Pokorny suggests Proto-Indo-European *lewǵ- (“to fracture, break”) (see Sanskrit रुजति (rujati)). However, many Celticists like Delamarre, Irslinger and Matasović express skepticism of a semantic connection to that root.
