Balochistan

Meaning

1. A region on the Iranian plateau in south-western Asia, northwest of the Arabian Sea, dominated by desert and mountains, composed of southwestern Pakistan, southeastern Iran and a strip of southwestern Afghanistan; inhabited by the Baloch people.
2. A province of Pakistan. Capital: Quetta.

Etymology / origin

Borrowed from Urdu بَلوچِسْتان (balocistān), from Baluchi بلوچِستان, or Classical Persian بَلوچِسْتَان (balōčistān). By surface analysis, Baloch + -istan.
