Gamilaraay

Meaning

1. The extinct Pama-Nyungan Australian Aboriginal suffixing language, within the Wiradjuric group, formerly spoken by these people.
2. An Indigenous people of New South Wales in Australia.

Etymology / origin

From Gamilaraay Gamilaraay (“having not”), from gamil (“not”) and -(b)araay (“having”). Other dialects and languages were similarly named after their respective words for no, e.g. the Wailwan say wayil.
